Course Content
Mandatory units:
- Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
- Advise and consult with clients
- Change hair colour
- Style and finish hair
- Set and dress hair
- Cut hair using basic techniques
Optional units:
- Perm and neutralise hair
Who is the course for?
Level 1 NVQ Certificate in hairdressing and barbering qualification is the beginning of a career in hairdressing, an industry that is ever-changing and has no boundaries to success. Your qualification will introduce you to the basic elements that you need to and enable you to work on a range of practical skills in a real working environment.
Assessment Method
To gain this qualification you will need to show plenty of evidence that you have undertaken each unit. It is a practical qualification, so each learnerÃÂÃÂ gets through grounding in all the skill areas by a qualified tutor who will assess you using:
- Observations - direct observation by your tutor watching you produce work
- Oral questions - direct questions asked by your tutor to check your understanding
- Written questions - questions you must answer in order to check your understanding of the subject area
- Mandatory written paper - a written test paper that must be taken under controlled conditions.
Entry Requirements
For learners who have literacy and numeracy to a Level 1 standard or the equivalent qualification (City & Guilds Level 1NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering).
Future Opportunities
Your qualification will give you the basic elements that you need to help you become a qualified hair stylist and you can progress to further levels such as our Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing or employment within the industry.

Tuesday 9am - 4pm and Thursday 9am - 4pm
