Mandatory units:
- Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Contribute to the development of effective working relationships
- Shampoo and condition hair
- Prepare for hair services and maintain work areas
Optional units:
- Blow dry hair
- Plait and twist hair using basic techniques
Who is the course for?
Level 1 NVQ Certificate in hairdressing and barbering qualification is the beginning of a career in hairdressing, an industry that is ever-changing and has no boundaries to success. Your qualification will introduce you to the basic elements that you need to and enable you to work on a range of practical skills in a real working environment.
Assessment Method
To gain this qualification you will need to show plenty of evidence that you have undertaken each unit. It is a practical qualification, so each learner gets through grounding in all the skill areas by a qualified tutor who will assess you using:
- Observations -direct observation by your tutor watching you produce work
- Oral questions - direct questions asked by your tutor to check your understanding
- Written questions - questions you must answer in order to check your understanding of the subject area
- Mandatory written paper - a written test paper that must be taken under controlled conditions.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however the course requires a degree of personal responsibility and the ability to work as part of a team.
Future Opportunities
On completion of this course learners will gain a qualification in City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering and then be able to progress on City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or employment.
